God and hope, briefly

Faith without understanding is brittle and fragile, understanding without faith is foolishness, and life without hope is misery.

It's important we understand that God is. God is not a human concept which changes over time, but Living God. So today we are not to live as though God's values and standards have been updated over the years. Rather, our allegiance is to the same Values, Laws and Good News given by God from the beginning, and spoken clearly to us by the Son.
"For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life."
-- The Gospel of John 3:16

This is our hope...

But what do you mean, "the Son of God?" How could God have a Son? Please explain....

There is unity of Godhead, and there are three Persons of one substance, power, and eternity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Ghost.

The Father is original and uncreated, the Father is the Creator, God Almighty, neither begotten nor proceeding. God the Father is Eternal God.

The Son is eternally begotten of the Father.

The Holy Spirit eternally proceeds from the Father and the Son.

So now we see God in Three Persons, but one unity. God the Creator is more than all of Creation. God the Son is God come into Creation. God the Holy Spirit is the doings of God the Father with Creation and God the Son with us.

(This explanation is based upon the Bible as Holy Scripture, and the understanding offered by the Westminster Confession of Faith, Chapter II, paragraph III.)
